How do I set up a device upload

event for a Twilio SMS device?

After you add your device to the study, select 'Study Arms' in the left sidebar navigation. Then select 'Encounter event Schedule' for the arm where you want to add the device upload encounterevent.

Click the blue 'Add New Encounterevent' button and select 'Device Upload' as the encounter event type. Then select the source. This will auto populate all of the devices that you have set up in Way to Health. The devices can be viewed by navigating to the Devices section in Manage Study.
Name the encounterevent.
Type the question or prompt into the 'participant message' box and click 'send notification?' checkbox. Since this is a text prompt, select 'Text only' as the notification method.
Choose the day when the encounter event should start and the encounter event window.
1. Encounter event start: For a question that will occur daily for the study duration, it typically starts on Day 0 or Day 1. For a one-off question, select the day (i.e. Day 6)
2. Encounter event window: Depending on if your study has other SMS questions on the same day will likely dictate the length of the encounter event window. This is because if the first question is Sleep Score (score 1-10) and the second question is Pain Score (1-10), the windows cannot overlap because WTH doesn't know which encounter event to attach a score of '5' to. Therefore either (1) the encounter event windows should not overlap or (2) the choices for one of the questions should not be 1-10, but rather 'Good, Fair, Poor'.
  
  Only asking 1 question per day? Leave the encounter event window open all day so participants have a chance to respond at any time that day!
Indicate how many times the encounter event should repeat and then click the blue 'Add' button.
You are now ready to build feedback on the device upload. This will allow you to send automated responses depending on the participant's text. Click the 'Feedback' button.
Inside the device upload feedback, select If 'Completed and'
Choose the source field (i.e response_choice) and the response options (i.e. 0-4). Select 'Message' from the 'Add a consequence' drop down list. Type your message to the participant based on their response choice and select 'text only' as the notification method.
1. For a question that can have multiple response options ('0-4') you MUST select 'Any'.
Repeat #9 for responses '5-9'.

What if the participant sends a response that is not '0-10'?
1. Select the source field to be 'valid_choice --> no'. The valid choices (i.e. 0-10, yes or no, etc.) are set up on the device itself. In this case, if the participant sends back anything but 0-10, then they will receive the message.
2. Set up a message to the tell the participant that WTH doesn't understand and to try again.
3. Reopen the encounter event to allow them to respond again. If you don't reopen the encounterevent, the participant will not receive feedback if they send the correct response the second time.
What if I just want to send a message to the participant thanking them for sending the pain score?
1. This will be set up like #9, except you will choose all response choice options.
Once all response scenarios are covered, click the blue 'Save Feedback' button at the bottom of the page.
