For all of the Way to Health veterans out there, remember the days when the development team had to custom build your study's target generators for you? Well look no further, YOU now have the ability to configure the target generator for your study!

What is the Survey-Based Target Generator?

  • Sets a participant's target or goal for the study based on a value entered via a survey.
    • This allows participants to have a goal based on their real data (i.e. lab value)
    • Allows each participant to have a different goal

  • Ability to set different goal parameters including
    • Set goal value
    • Select type of data input to evaluate, i.e. steps or distance
    • Define start date and end date of target

How do I set up the Survey-Based Target Generator?

  1. If you have not so already, first you should set up the survey that will be used to generate the targets.  This addition is necessary in order for WTH to assign the correct target to the participant based on the entered data in the survey.
    1. Not sure how to do this? See Retired Survey Functionality- 2018

  2. Navigate to the 'Target Configurations' section of Manage Study.

    • Data Source: Select the device that the target should look at. This could be a pedometer, smart water bottle, scale, etc.
      • Haven't set up your devices yet? Go to the 'Devices' section of Manage Study.

    • Data Field: Select the data that the target should look at. This should be the same selection field that is set up in the Device Settings.
      • Example: Fitbit = steps, Withings Scale = weight

    • Arm: Choose the arm that will have this target generator.  This allows you to have different criteria across arms.
      • Want the same target for both Intervention and Control? Just created the same target generator twice, swapping out the arm!
      • Haven't built the study arms yet? Go to 'Study Arms' section of Manage Study

    • Dependent Source: The survey where the value of the target is entered by either the participant or project staff.
      • Example: LDL lab value survey, in-person weigh-in survey, fluid prescription survey
      • Haven't built the surveys yet? Go to 'Surveys' section of Manage Study

    • Dependent field: Coded question number where the target value will be entered into the survey
      • Example: If you are entering in the target value into the second question in the survey, choose 'Q2'.

    • Default Value: The survey should always be completed so this field can typically be 'ignored'. WTH requires you to enter a value so enter either '0' or a standard value, like '7000' for a pedometer.

Scheduling

  • Start Day: Select the day that the target should start.  This is typically at study start, or Day 0.

  • End Day: Select the day that the target should end. This is typically the last day in the study.

Once you are done building your Enrollment Run-in target generator.  Click 'Save'.  The new target will now appear in your Target Configurations overview page.
