Building: Translations/Internationalization (I18N)
Enabling Multiple Language Support
If your study is looking to support multiple languages other than English, the other languages must first be enabled through Mange Study under Settings > Advanced > Internationalization. Once ‘Enable Internationalization’ is enabled, the list of available languages will appear for selection.
Currently, W2H only has support for English, Spanish, Korean, Russian, Chinese (zh-CN), and Vietnamese (Portuguese will soon be available as well). If a language is needed for your study that is not currently listed, please reach out to your W2H liaison as it will require additional development.
Importing Custom Translations
Once a language other than English is enabled (see Enabling Multiple Language Support), there will be a new Translations section under the Manage Study menu. This is where your study can download the template of current custom participant-facing language across the build as an excel document, and where the translations for each enabled language can be input and uploaded back into W2H.
Downloading the Template
Seen as ‘Step 1’ along the top of the page, there is a link to download an excel document that includes all of your studies language that needs translation support. The excel document has several pages, including Settings, Messaging, Enrollment, Variables, and all of the studies' separate Arms.
Each page lists the translatable text, its version in English, and columns for their translations in any of the other languages the study has enabled (in the above, our Demo Study has both Spanish and Korean enabled).
The template is meant to be filled in by the study team for all applicable text, and then re-uploaded to W2H through the Translations page.
Uploading the Translated Template
Once the needed translations are filled in on the template, it can be uploaded to W2H through the Translations page under ‘Step 3’ at the top. Once the file is fully uploaded, all uploaded translations should be viewable under their sections listed on the left side of the page (the selected language to view can be changed using the dropdown on the top-right of the page).
