Setting Up A Duplicate Data Alert

Create a custom alert message in the event a participant submits duplicate data of the same type.

e.g. receive an automated alert message if your study uses Twilio picture messaging (MMS) and a participant submits the same exact image twice when they are supposed to be submitting a new image each time.

1.) If you have not done so already, go to your study's backend dashboard page, click your study name, click 'Manage Study and navigate to the Data Sources page.

e.g. For Twilio picture messaging, after clicking 'New Device', give it a name and select 'Twilio Picture Receiver' from the drop down list.

2.)  Go to the SMS/Other tab and create the appropriate device.

3.) Once you are finished configuring your device and want to set up the alert, click 'Manage Study' at the top of the page then click 'Alerts' from the menu on the left.  Once you are on the Alerts page, click 'New' to create a new alert and you will see options to setup your new alert.

4.)  Fill out the following fields:

    • Source: select the device that will be the root source of triggering the alert.  (This is what we set up in step # 1)
    • Class: select 'Duplicate Alert Generator'
    • Admin message: define your custom alert message.  (You can also define a custom Epic message if your study has Epic integration)
    • Params: choose 'Check for duplicate in' from the drop-down menu

e.g. For Twilio picture messaging, you would select 'image_detector' from the 'Check for duplicate in' drop-down menu if you would like to be alerted if any participant ever tries to submit the same exact image more than once.
